Who Is Skrap DAWG

SKRAP D.A.W.G.

Erik Cordea’ Landry currently known by his stage name Skrap D.A.W.G, is a American rapper, producer, actor, writer, cartoonist and entrepreneur.

Born and raised in Houston, TX on the streets of third ward, Skrap has seen and experienced things that an average man wouldn’t have survived. For Skrap, things he had to endure as a child wasn’t something he asked for, instead it was something that just happened. As a young child, Skrap was raised by his single mom (of 4 children). She had done what she could for a short while before having a nervous breakdown and later being declared missing for a great period of his and his siblings lives. Skrap and his siblings were split up. He and his older sister stuck together during this ordeal, shifting from house to house by friends and relatives. Some years later, Skrap and his siblings were reunited with his mom, but the reunion wasn’t quite what he’d expected. His mom wasn’t the same, thus, hell on earth begun for Skrap D.A.W.G. He experienced things that no child should ever go through such as, physical, verbal and mental abuse, Starvation (on several accounts), to living in an abandon building where there were no electricity, gas (and later water), and other unmentionable things for an entire year. Like many young boys in his neighborhood with no options, Skrap turned to hustling in the streets. He was selling anything that he could, just so his family could eat. This was an heavy responsibility for a 13 year old kid. Skrap D.A.W.G. found solace on the streets because for a moment, he was away from the abuse, the poverty, the pain and neglect.

But, even in his darkest years of “street hustling and thugging”, Skrap always felt a brighter light inside that couldn’t wait to be exposed.

From 1991-1998, he began tapping into rapping skills that he always knew he had. He formed a group called “The Jump Out Boys”. The group began to appear in local shows and later on inner-state and neighboring state tours. The Jump Out Boys have performed with greats such as Too Short and even appeared on the same show card as Biggie Smalls. In 1994, The Jump Out Boys released the single “In Tha Hood”, featuring Southern rapper/singer Big Moe and Mike Wilson. With that single, the Jump Out Boys made a lot of noise, even landing their single in the rotation at the local radio stations. Off the success of the single, Skrap moved to Altanta, GA to embark on a solo career.

While in Atlanta he had a spiritual enlighten with the Creator himself. This resulted in a change for the better and added the balance that was always missing in his life. After doing local shows and performing in front of thousands of people, he then moved back to Houston hungrier than ever, but not just for the music, but the business behind the music.

From Skrap’s perspective, he viewed the music industry as offense and defense. For years, he had the “offense” (musical talents), but he was lacking in the defensive area (the business side). From 1999 until 2004, Skrap D.A.W.G. focused exclusively on the defense. As a result, in 2005 Barrier Breakers Entertainment was established. Streams of successful albums are now in production at BBE, including the long awaited “Jump Out Boys” reunion album, his highly anticipated double disc solo album “The Gap Bridga” and his recently released solo album entitled, “Breath of Fresh Air”. After signing several artists to his Barrier Breakers imprint, Skrap continues to be the foundation of the company as well as leaving his mark on the rap game as an standout artist. Before it’s over, Skrap will indeed be mentioned in the same breath as some of the greats that influenced him, like Tupac, Notorious BIG, Jay Z and Scarface.
